Let it go

It was drizzling outside the coffee shop,

She stared at the lecture notes scattered

on the table in front of her,

her coffee gone cold and the muffins untouched,

She simply had nothing in her head,

all she could picture, again and again,

was him walking away;

Smart as she was, she was never quite blown

off like this,

Deep down she expected this, as she knew

he wanted more than ‘friends;

Yet, she wasn’t ready for any of this.

She realized she could no longer hold

on to a fading bond.

They won’t wait for you always,

that’s just the way it is.
